AnalogueTrash review: Tree of Dawn - Carousel

Cyprus based Tree of Dawn was initially founded by the singer Ronja Burve and pianist Christos Yerolatsitis as a jazz-influenced duo. The addition in 2018 guitarist Antreas Yerolatsitis also saw the band take a more electronic and eclectic direction, as you can hear on Carousel.

Carousel takes some of its cues from the more cinematic end of trip-hop but adds some innovative and intriguing elements to create a very individual sound. The guitar melody plays around with more standard rock sounds but still reverberate with classic 60s and 70s pop and rock nuances. Shadows of electronica and dark rock are discernible at times, adding an edgy yet fluid quality. But it’s Ronja Burve’s vocals draw all the elements together: they seem to dance around the flowing, brooding arrangement and show the band’s jazz leanings still make up a prominent part of its musical DNA.

Tree of Dawn’s Carousel is out now and available to stream or download on all major platforms including Apple Music. Be sure to check the band out over on Facebook and Instagram, show them some social media love as well as keeping up with news about the song, upcoming releases and more.
